If Mike Lindup isn't pakistani >or indian ... just what the hell is he? He's English, of course. All this talk aboput favourite videos , records etc has got me thinking. Personally I feel that they were _always_ a lot better live than on record. So what was your favourite gig ? I'll start the ball rolling, my fav. gig had to be the first one I saw them at in Portsmouth in 81 (or 82...such a long time ago I can't remember dates) and also the Wembley gig where MK was flown around the stage on a wire. Also (yea I have 3 favourites , so there) their last gig at the RAH will always be in my heart.Sad tho' it was. What about you people ? BTW This'll prolly be my last post for a week or two, due to the fact that I fly out on Sunday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Crowson Freelance Oracle Consultant (since 1983) igotan @ ombomb.demon.co.uk/weirdguy @ cix.compulink.co.uk/dcrowson @ amoco.com "Follow Me, To the end of the Earth, Follow Me, before it all breaks down" ------------------------------ From: "AFUA PRESTON" Organization: New York University Libraries Date: 3 May 95 10:32:40 EST Subject: Favorite Level 42 video Wow. Almost everyone likes "Something About You". I'd have to agree too. The music is well edited with the video and the concept was unique and they all did good acting. I also like the concept and music editing of the "Running in the Family" video. Oh yea and the video for "Take a Look" I like the way it's edited and shows the group in a "cool & relaxed" manner I always start swaying with the music. Hey has anyone seen the "To be with You gain" video? It's confusing. What do a miniature Level 42 have to do with a girl asleep? ------------------------------ From: "Lars-Ove Karlsson" Organization: IAR SYSTEMS AB Date: Wed, 3 May 1995 17:25:23 CET Subject: Re: Princes trust Just wanted to add that they did Lessons In Love and Heaven In My Hands in the 1989 Princes trust concert. Favourite video would be Take Care Of Yourself. When I'm talking about videos, when you look at the To Be With You Again (I think) you see short cuts from other L42 videos. Some of these I don't recognize, although I know that there is a video for (Are You Hearing (What I Hear)?). I haven't seen this video. Also I would like to know what tracks you would like to hear live, but haven't found a copy of yet (or L42 never performed it live). -- e-mail: love @ iar.se ------------------------------ From: lolita @ InterServ.Com Date: Wed, 3 May 95 09:22:06 PDT Subject: Mike Lindup's Nationality I am totally guessing here, but I think Mike Lindup is probably part black and part white. The reason I think this is that I remember seeing a photo of him taken in the late 70's or early 80's, and he had a big afro. It was a picture of him, Mark and Wally. I could be completely wrong on this, but I distinctly remember that 'fro (I was looking for the fisted afro pick!) because it was big (think Prince's album cover in the late 70's). ------------------------------ From: akpaulet @ vt.edu (Amanda P.) I saw "Lessons in Love" [kinda weird, kinda artsy-fartsy, but effective] and "Heaven in My Hands" [actually really nice, with the vintage B&W feel] on some USA show in the middle of the night. Have "Running in the Family" [IMHO, kinda standard and not very imaginative] from Live at Wembley [Arena, hehehe]. Came across "To Be With You Again" [tres bizarre; real nightmare fuel, there...but cute little Sgt. Pepper-esque outfits, I must say] on a tape of a "Saturday Superstore" show from England my sister had taped and I forgot all about. But, at the risk of being original, I give the prize to "Something About You." In fact, I was feeling nostalgic [and imbibing a little : ) ] about two weeks ago and starting watching that video. I watched it 4 times straight when I just sat up on my sofa and said "Whoa! I get it now!" I don't remember what it was I suddenly "got" about it, but I've always liked that video anyways. Mark is quite an effective and menacing Evil Clown [he can menace me any time : ) ] But above all, it seemed to have an actual story. [And BTW, has anyone else caught the cat motif running through the video?] And, of course, _big-time_ bonus points go to the big yellow plaid suit. Amanda K. Well by far the best video and the best song in the world is somethin g about you.....The images of the clown, the classic roadster, the beautiful wo man. A perfect storybook video... That's my opinion and if you don't like it... .....CAG ------------------------------ From: PLFlanagan @ aol.com Date: Wed, 3 May 1995 20:50:48 -0400 Subject: Allan Holdsworth I still have no background on this guy. All I know him from is his good guitar playing on Guaranteed. (Though his, I guess you could say, "trademark sound" gets a bit annoying after awhile -- especially in the Hammersmith Odeon concert I have taped. He sounds terrible in the non-Guaranteed songs.) Who the hell is he? He sounds like he has some sort of devoted following. I can tell, by what I've heard of their passionate disdain for his "lowering himself" to play with Level 42. Is this guy someone I should know? Or is he just some guitar wonk with a cult following? Thanks for any info. Take Care of Yourselves. Pat "Just as long as he believes, standing in the light, he'll make them understand." -- WHICH BRINGS UP THE QUESTION -- Just what is Mike saying in the chorus of that song? Is it "Day and night, we will be TOUGH"? or "TOUCHED"? or "TUBBED"? Can't tell, don't have the lyrics. ------------------------------ From: Tony bassette Date: Thu, 4 May 1995 10:31:54 +0000 (GMT) Subject: My favourite video Hi on the best level With no doubt I say "Something About You" and "Leaving Me Now" of course they are two of my favorite song's but the "Clown" express exactly what we are inside (in my mind ...)
