I guess they would not have ever been able to fill it (as even those 8 nights at the end of 1986 or during 1987, I forget which it was, would have considerable overlap of fans). Brits, this calls for some speculation on your part, measuring L42's popularity at the time and extrapolating, as it were. Bass riff for Past Lives is also the same groove as Physical Presence, isn't it? Play those two songs back to back. Another two to compare are The Bends and Duran Duran's Come Undone. Creepy! Good Times is a hoax. I alerted some people about it myself, but I soon discovered that you cannot pick up a virus through e-mail. ------------------------------ From: lolita @ InterServ.Com Date: Thu, 27 Apr 95 08:19:27 PDT Subject: Lefty Bass LevelHeads: I am extremely interested in learning to play the bass. I played the bass clarinet and the tenor sax for almost 10 years a while back, but I began to sing during college, and it is hard to sing and play reeds, so I gave them up. I think the bass would solve my problem; plus I have always been a great fan of the instrument; Jaco, Marcus, MARK!, Stanley, and all of the rest. My problem is that I am left-handed. I don't want to play righty, because I eventually want to play acoustic, and my left hand is much stronger for plucking and things like that than my right would be. Plus, I think it would be kind of cool to play lefty. My question is: does anyone on the East Coast of the U.S. (preferably NYC) know of a lefty bass out there for sale, lease or rent? I am having a hard time finding one in the music stores here in the city for less than $500. I want to start out with a cheapie (about $200-$300) and get a more expensive one later when I get more proficient. I figured that the digest would be a good place to ask since a lot of you are probably bass players. ------------------------------ From: vdhee @ fwi.uva.nl (Ernst-Jan van der Hee (BI92)) Date: Thu, 27 Apr 1995 17:56:24 +0200 Subject: Re: the definitive biography the "Definitive biography" is a (real!) book about level 42, written by Michael Cowton. Based on interviews he had with Mark, Mike, Boon, Phil, Wally, Marks' parents, Mike's mother and more, Cowton wrote an interesting biography about Level42 up to "Staring at the sun" and the breakup between Mark and Mike and the Gould-brothers. It and the stadium are two different things, I believe.< ----ok; I'm an ignorant Yankee schmuck. ------------------------------ From: PFlanagan1 @ aol.com Date: Thu, 27 Apr 1995 23:38:24 -0400 Subject: Singing Dogs Singing Dogs -- Dude, make those samples downloadable from an FTP site, ok? I'd love to hear 'em! I've always believed that dogs have good taste (although the dog I used to have only acted weird when "Trapper John MD" was on TV -- go figure). ----------- x ------------- Go West list -- Yeah, buddy, I'd be all over that one, too, if you start it up. I notice a lot of LevelHeads like Go West, too. Interesting. ----------- x ------------- The Bends -- If you don't have it, get it. Enough said. ----------- x ------------- Past Lives -- Good ears, Lolita. I didn't make the connection until you mentioned it. So far as I hear, it's the same riff. Recycle, reuse -- it's good for the soul. ----------- x ------------- Atavachron digest -- Uh, ok. I'll check it out. But can anyone give me, like, a three line synopsis of Allan Holdsworth? He doesn't look like your typical guitar god (like I do, of course :D ). ----------- x ------------- Live At Wembley -- Arena, not stadium. ----------- x ------------- Good Times virus -- Yeah, that's an old one. Too bad it isn't true. ----------- x ------------- Jakko -- So, that's him on the Guaranteed cover, eh? Could've sworn it was Gary Glitter. ;D I think it was the hair that caused me to be confused with John Thirkell. After all, it's kinda hard to tell what a guy looks like with his mouth smushed into a trumpet. ----------- x ------------- D-tuned -- OUCH! I remember playing bass with a friend's band at a little party we had. I forgot that I had detuned my E-string down to a C sharp. Man , that'll throw you off. How'd Mark cope with it? ----------- x ------------- Final note: This Sunday, I'll be changing my email address. Don't ask why, but it'll be plflanagan @ aol.com. This is for those of you who have me in their address books. Keep those cards and letters coming! Take Care of You-selves, Pat Flanagan
