Back in February, the station showed a concert recorded on 14 Oct 1984. This Sunday's concert goes back even earlier to 1983. For those wishing to tape it, WDR can be found on the Astra satellite, channel 39. The preview page didn't show what time the concert starts, although it is likely to be about 3am. I would recommend checking page 304, 5 or 6 on the Saturday. The concert is part of the 'die WDR-Rocknacht'. You may be directed to another page (31x) for the a schedule of the evening's concerts. They also formed together the Prince`s Trust Allstar Band and played for instance a brillant version of "Lessons in Love" with Mark Knopfler and Brian May on Guitars, Phil Collins on Drums, and Mark and Mike. Mark King playing with Carl (Mr. no concept of time) Palmer? No >thanks. (Of course, I'll run out an buy it anyway.) Huh? What am I missing here? If we're talking about the same Carl Palmer, what, may I ask respectfully, do you mean? That he can't keep time? That he's just a bad drummer? Please explain! I can see the King/Palmer combo as being a weird grouping (e.g. they play such different styles of music), but that's the extent of my puzzlement at the match-up. They are both immensely talented musicians. I'm afraid I know very little about Midge Ure, however. And another asked: >About this King/Ure/Palmer trio... who is Carl Palmer? Carl Palmer was (and is, I guess:-) ) the drummer for Emerson, Lake and Palmer, a band much beloved of the progressive rock crowd. You might also know him as the drummer for Asia in the 80's, a sort of AOR supergroup made up of prog musicians (Steve Howe, John Wetton, Geoff Downes, Carl Palmer) playing more straighforward arena rock. I do indeed wonder why Palmer (if we're actually speaking of the same person!) would work with the likes of Mark King! But, being a fan of both prog and Level 42, I eagerly await this colloboration! I've caught him mostly from the Sanborn, Vandross (whose albums are increasingly harder to listen to as time goes by), and Miles Davis albums. But here's a place to catch some of his best work: the "Provision" album by Scritti Politti. Most US listeners will remember SP from their '85 dance hit "Perfect Way" (an incredibly infectious catchy groove with great sequencing -- you'd know it if you heard it). SP was primarily a synth band (and an expert one, at that), but they frequently brought in live bass players. Marcus kills on the Provision album, particularly on "Bam Salute," "Boom! There She Was," and "Sugar And Spice." The album also features Roger Troutman, from the old funk band Zapp, playing the talk box (incredible, simply incredible), and even Miles Davis playing trumpet. It's a great happy sounding synth-dance album, if you can find it (check the cutout bins). (I know, this was very "off the Level," but, oh well.) :D Pat Flanagan "Singadubah, singadubah, singadubah, singadu bau bau" - Are You Hearing What I Hear ------------------------------ From: PFlanagan1 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 23 Apr 1995 18:26:49 -0400 Subject: Jakko/Dominic/Danny Jakko played drums on the final tour, after Gary Husband left. Dominic Miller -- Sting's guitarist and session man extraordinaire. Played on Mike Lindup's Changes solo album, 1990. Has played with tons of Brit artis ts like Julia Fordham, and a few others that have slipped my usual liner-notes-sponge memory. Danny Blume - Guitar on Forever Now, and, I believe, the final tour. Anyone who can receive the dutch commercial tv-station RTL 5, check out on friday the 28th 20.30 . I have never seen this film, according to the "Definitive biography" level 42 appaered in one scene and wrote music for it. Does anyone know this film? Favorite album : Forever Now, favorite track : the sunbed song. Why? Finally a song as fast as their live performances. About the newsgroup alt.music.level42 I saw it on MTV-text a few weeks ago. "Gregman" was responsible for this new newsgroup according to MTV-text. I tried to contact him, but I got no response. I just posted the lyrics of "forever now" to the ones who responded. If someone else is interested I have them in e-mail format. Definitely worth getting some to listen to. Mike also just introduced me to the following which are well worth wrapping your ears round; Mother Earth (like F**king Wow :) Keziah Jones Loius Johnson Uzeb (prev. mentioned I believe) and surprisingly to me Duran Duran (No, don't run away, the bassist, John Taylor, kicks ass) >From: jryder @ easynet.co.uk (james ryder) >Please can you tell me what the band are doing now, or as individual members >and also, are they doing a British tour this year / James, Level 42 toured last year in Japan and the UK, and it was their _final ever_ tour. As of now they are no more. So there will be no tour this year, next year, or ever.
