From what I know, Wally is more of a studio guy, and likes it to be that way. 2) Wally has a separate recording contract with another company. 3) Wally is already a well-established artist in his own right. Still, he and the band go way back, and I'm sure they're all good friends, enough that Wally is happy enough with the producer/associate member role that he has with L42. My mouth dropped open, and I kept saying "You're kidding?!?!" > Does anybody have any info regarding possible U.S. release or why > Level was dropped? THIS IS LIKE A BAD DREAM COME TRUE!!!!! Now, it makes sense to say that the album was dropped because their last one didn't do so well here. But that's a catch-22! (or catch-42?) How can BMG sell L42 in the US when they won't even release the album? That's so lame. And whose fault is it? None other than BMG themselves! THEY were the company who did ZERO marketing for the band when "Guaranteed" came out! No tour (they didn't have any confidence in L42 to sell in the US so they never backed a tour), no videos, no AIRPLAY. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Is that the reason BMG put little survey cards inside the "Guaranteed" CD booklet? I admit, I never sent mines in (procrastination). I guess the response they got was lackluster. This sucks. Something has to be done. As a mailing list, we are more or less a "virtual" fan club for L42, are we not? We exist, right? I think we should actually DO SOMETHING. Despite the fact that L42 is more popular outside the US, given the statistics that Eric Hansen puts out periodically, the majority of people on this mailing list reside in the U.S. As I understand, some of you here are on the official fan club roster. If we band together and pool our resources (all of us), perhaps we could let BMG, Paul Crockford and Level 42 themselves know that they are badly missed here in the U.S., and that there are thousands of starving fans who would want to see their new album in the stores and the band on a stage. I myself (and I'm sure a lot of you share the same sentiment) am sick and tired of all these years that has been passed up in the U.S. That the last time they played a concert here was in 1987 - SEVEN YEARS AGO! (Seven years have come and gone, all that time for you... o/~) DESPITE the fact that the band came down to New Orleans in 1988 to shoot a couple of music videos. So what do you say? A letter writing campaign? A serious petition? Protest in front of the RCA/BMG headquarters? Riots? (well, maybe not go THAT far..) but I'm down for anything active and constructive that will hopefully get my favorite band's album on the shelves and on a stage! THE SPIRIT OF THE PEOPLE...THE RHYTHM HAS BEGUN! Elson ------------------------------ From: "Eric J. Hansen" Date: Tue, 8 Mar 1994 13:55:10 -0500 (EST) Subject: Did someone say statistics?! One does have to wonder about the logic of signing a band you have no interest in promoting. Of course, it was RCA in the UK that signed them, not RCA in the US . . . -- Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ various internal organs of mine are starting to vibrate in a way that may not be healthy
