Well, folks, first of all, thanks to everyone who has responded to the survey thus far; and I'm still tabulating the votes for those of you who would still like to comment on your favorite three L42 songs. A few people have wondered about what I would be saying to W.A.Michie. My answer: nothing. At least not on the list. This is not the place for ANYONE to be having a battle. Although, I did write one note directly to him simply stating that I just don't understand where he's coming from. Anyone who has that much problem with something so harmless as this survey just baffles me. Needless to say, it's nice to know that he's unsubscribed. [thanks to help from Jody McDonnell : ) ] Anyway, I'm a new subscriber so I suppose I should tell you all a little about myself. *Name: Amanda Katherine Paulette *Age: 21 [as of a 8 days ago : ) ] *Hometown: Yorktown, VA [but that's just where the family ended up; I was an Air Force Brat through high school, so I lived in Va., Delaware and England - born there, actually] *What I'm doing now: I'm studying [allegedly] at Virginia Tech in the lovely sprawling metropolis of Blacksburg [psych!]. I'm a senior Communications major getting ready to graduate in May [yikes!], so needless to say I'm trying to beat adulthood and responsibility back with a stick. *Now the good stuff: So how did moi stumble upon Level 42? Well, for starters, I vaguely remember groovin' to "The Sun Goes Down" on the radio on the school bus when I was in fifth grade, so that would be '83 [I was in England at the time, so we didn't have cheese wagons, oh no; we had chartered coaches...oooh...ahhh]. But it wasn't really until "Something About You" came out that I sat up and took notice [that was also while I was in England, so sometime around Oct./Nov. '85 - I was 12]. Couldn't get my hands on any of their tapes until I left England [actually, that's not quite right; I bought "Running in the Family" at the airport while we were waiting around to finally jump "The Pond" in '87], but I tried to keep up with them as best I could once back in the States [not especially successful : ( ]. I did however get to see the original incarnation of the band when they opened for Tina Turner at the Hampton Coliseum in Nov. of '87 [I read somewhere that Phil and Boon left the group within a month; I always took that kinda personal]. *One goofy event that just reinforces my Level42-fandom: In my senior advanced placement English class in high school, I wrote a four-page analysis of the song "Running in the Family" [I am not making this up, I swear], because the teacher said we could pick any subject, be it a book, poem, song, whatever. I made an A. : ) Anyway, that's all for now. I will post something soon [briefer, though, I promise] regarding my three favorite songs [oy, so many to pick from!]. Later, children! ****************************************************************************** Amanda K. Frankly, I don't have any objections to 'surveys' that ask us to share our favoutite "whatevers". I kind of like the idea! Am I the only one who thinks it kind of cool to reminisce in this fashion on a group who's art we commonly appreciate? After all, plenty of people sit around and spend hours talking about less. If I am in the minority here on this subject, tell me. If not, keep these surveys coming!! NOW, as you'll remember from last week, I offered a tribute to L42 on Michigan State's college radio station. I asked you to e-mail me your votes for "MOST APPROPRIATE SONG FOR A RADIO TRIBUTE". Thanks to all of you who participated!! The runner up was "It's Over", as many of you thought this would be the most timely of songs. However, "Something About You" was the champion and, I might add, sounded GREAT on the STRONGEST-POWERED COLLEGE FM IN THE NATION, which attracts a weekly audience of over 25,000 listeners in the Mid-ichigan area. The tribute aired during the station's peak listening hour! Finally, I gladly offer my three L42 choice cuts, in order: 1. Children Say - I've listened to this many hundreds of times and still, I manage to discover something new each time I hear it. It's outro still brings a tear to my eye. 2. Heaven In My Hands - I love the lyrics to this one. A song with wonderful optimism! 3. Three Words - If you're unfamiliar with this one, you're missing out! It appears on the UK single of "Tracie". I can't believe more of you haven't read the Level 42 Biography circa 1989. I got it from Audiophile Imports about 2 years ago. I recently sent off a request to join the fan club. Does anyone know if the fan club is still happening for a while? Dan Pinder
