It's a documentary of the European tour for Staring At The Sun -- there's concert footage, a few videos (they do some making-of-the-videos stuff in New Orleans, etc.), and some interviews. Kind of their version of "Bring On The Night" or "This Is Spinal Tap" :-) -- Lazlo (lazlo @ rt66.com) ------------------------------ From: "W.A. BUT, well, yeah, I guess some of the things people say in here are JUST A BIT geeky, I mean with people assuming song titles as their names, speaking in lyrics as part of conversation as if these songs were the scriptures, L-42 lyrics as signatures, etc.,....I mean, get real, kiddies... > then just unsubscribe. no intention to do so (unless the subscription board dogs me, of course) point is, since I heard the band (now here I go with MY boring account) in Rochester NY one evening from my favorite Toronto (actually Missasauga) radio station, I have enjoyed their music, as I have and do many other bands (a few of which I learned of from that radio station, CFX-107 (?), such as the Spoons, Martha & the Muffins, Parachute Club, New Math (I bet no one's heard of them, or do y'all listen to one band and one band only?) and many others, all, including L-42, at that time relatively unheard of in the States. It was "the Chant...", and the 3 or so minutes of it that I could record had me learning the bass riff for about four hours straight into the wee hours - I still use it as a warmup lick. That was during that time (early 80's), of, sort of unlike now, really interesting and good music (my opinion)...... ANYWAY, as a bassist, King is one of many influences (but then nowhere near as important as Jimi or Jan Hammer) as is Stanley (who Mark learned JUST A FEW licks from), Chris, Louis (most likely from him as well), Pino, Mark, Geddy, James, Jaco, etc. - if you're a bassist you know who they are. So quite naturally I like the band, both as a musician and as someone who likes music (I think that their music is quite good and even trancends their, or King's, at least, considerable musical abilities), and would've liked to see them again (fat chance now, but at least I did in NYC a few years ago), so I was interested in their tour schedule, information on sheet music, bootlegs, etc., comments from other musicians (good ones, anyway), and so on, and that's why I subscribed. BUT (and here it is, folks!) there must be SOMEONE out there who isn't afraid to admit that this column sometimes reads like Teen magazine (for you non-Americans out there, that's a fanzine for 16-year olds who listen to Wham, Bay City Rollers, and the like). Those people spout their opinions, I spouted mine. And you know what they say about opinions (you don't !??!, ok: they're like assh*les, everyone has them, and they all stink!) So, just the facts, m'am.....(and these are MINE, not yours, my company's, my friend's............) Now let's hear something INTERESTING, or is that a moot point as the band is essentially dead-until-reincarnated ?
