Wally Badarou's "Echos" album (two thumbs up!) ------------------------------ From: eric (Eric J. Hansen) Date: Mon, 14 Feb 94 19:32:14 EST Subject: Wally Badarou's "Echos" album (two thumbs up!) Hey all, I picked up Wally Badarou's album "Echos" this past Saturday at Tower Records in Boston, MA. It was completely random that I saw it - I wasn't looking for it, but it happened to be at the very front of the rack. For those of you who (gasp) don't really know who W.B. is... He's been with L42 ever since their founding. I believe that he's listed as a contributor on every album. I don't think he's ever toured with the band, but he is definitely responsible for alot of work done in the studio. Anyways, "Echos" is W.B.'s first of two solo efforts. I bought his second album "Words of a Mountain" a few years back - completely on spec I might add. W.O.A.M. is pretty good - very new-ageish and electronic a la Vangelis and JMJ. I was pretty suprised when I first plugged in Echos - it is quite upbeat and more "mainstream". My overall review is a resounding, no-holds-barred "Go buy it!!" I *really* like this album, and it even makes me ponder about how much writing/playing Mike Lindup is _actually_ responsible for... (keyboard parts, anyways). I think that any fan would instantly recognize a similarity between Echos and earlier L42 stuff (even new stuff, though). The keyboard work is really good - alot of polished mixing and well-thought-out harmonies and progressions. Now that I've got both of W.B.'s solo albums, as well as Mark King's "Influences", does anyone have any suggestions for getting Mike Lindup's solo album?! Or at least, can anyone who owns it post a brief note telling about it? Most of the tracks are upbeat but introspective ballads, similar to L42 tracks like "Physical Presence", "It's Over", "Children Say", etc. No in your face power-funk dance stuff (no guest appearances by any of the other core 42 personnel like King/Badarou/bros. Gould, for that matter). -- Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ and when he had crossed the bridge, the phantoms came to meet him
