Keep those posts coming! I'm not surprised at all. There was a thread on Mark King on the rec.music. makers.bass newsgroup recently and I and a couple other mailing list sub- scribers showed some of the people in the newsgroup the light, I mean, told them about the list. :) I also think you should advertise this list periodically, say, every 3-4 months. The Internet, I heard, expands by 1,000,000 computers a month. there may be some totally diehard Level 42 fans (even more diehard than any of us!) that don't even know the list exists! Maybe Mark King or Mike Lindup or Wally Badarou has an account? ( I know Wally already has a PAN account). Maybe Paul Crockford has access to the net? You never know! Since this is the beginning of the year (well, alright, a month into the year already), why not begin advertising the list now? Keep those posts coming! Oh, did I make it to subscriber #42? :) I'm really glad this digest exists, and only regret I didn't get information about this earlier. Does any ftp server contain earlier digests? Oh yeah, my history on Level 42. A friend of mine, a drummer, introduced me to the music of Toto and Level 42 in around -86. I didn't understand much of music that time, but those two really hit me some way, and they still are my favourites. I had played some classical tunes on piano for some years and over the next few years I managed to learn a few Toto tunes. Gradually though, the slap bass sound became much more interesting for me (thanks to Mr King, of course) so I borrowed a friend's bass guitar. As I closely looked at the Wembley -86 video (my only bass instructor for some time) I found myself wondering "how the hell is he doing that?", but I learned slowly. In time, playing became easier, and I bought my own bass and amp. I became a huge L42 fan, and the Wembley video was something I had to watch nearly every day. Of course I bought the records too, but a live video is something that really shows what the band is made of. Mark King's influences on me (a pun intended) were complete when I, after adopting much of his playing style (except singing at the same time), bought a quite expensive Alembic bass guitar (ok, it was on 50% discount). His kind of music is something I really like to play. OK, that's it about me. My favourite records are the oldest britfunk ones with instrumentals. And the live recordings! There can't be too many of them! Too bad I have only the -84 live record, the -86 Wembley video, the -91 Guaranteed video and some radio recording from the Heaven in the hands -tour. And the Fait Accompli -video. I'm desperate to find more, if anyone can help me. -JP
