Does anyone know if this means that Jakko has quit Level 42 ? In the same newsletter (or was it the previous one) Mark King mentions a new solo album, any news on this? /Lars-Ove -- e-mail: love @ iar.se Murphy's laws on technology: After all is said and done, a hell of a lot more is said than done. ------------------------------ From: Mark Brewster Date: Tue, 21 Dec 93 09:49:55 PST Subject: CD's for Level 42 Does anyone know how I can get a hold of a copy of the Early Tapes? - AND - Anyone know if the early albums from Level 42 are on CD. I went to Tower Records and the interactive catalog claimed that Level 42, The Pursuit Of Accidents, Standing In The Light and True Colours weren't being made anymore. Is this the real deal? Oh, yeah, one more thing. Quick couple of questions to all. 1) If there are rumors of a new album, what do you think the sound will be? Will it be their earlier jazz-tinged polite funk sound or their more comercially acceptable pop sound? (I hope it is more of the former, sort of World Machine meets Pursuit Of Accidents) 2) Mark King's best work is on what album? on what track? The track doesn't necessarily have to be off of the same album. For me, his best album's work is World Machine but the track Pursuit of Accidents is far and away his best single effort. (or... create one if it doesn't exist?!) Someone would have to pay me real money to do that. :-) Pettibone has done a frightening amount of work; I've seen old Sugar Hill 12"s from the Disco era with his name on them. Compiling a list of everything he's done would be a truly daunting task . . . -- Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) ------------------------------ From: peter @ kentrox.com (Peter Uchytil) Date: Tue, 21 Dec 93 10:11:02 PST Subject: Best Mark King > 2) Mark King's best work is on what album? on what track? > The track doesn't necessarily have to be off of the same album. > > For me, his best album's work is World Machine but the track Pursuit > of Accidents is far and away his best single effort. > > Mark B. Well, I'm going to diverge a bit from your question. For me, the best Mark King I've heard is on the Live Video for the Running in the Family tour. I don't own this (yet), but I've seen it a couple of times a while back. Mark has this bass solo that is unbelievable! He started the solo and I'm thinking, oh cool. Then it erupts in this speed frenzy. Blew me away. Funny that Mark King doesn't seem to be highly regarded by some bass players. I can't understand why. Oh, there's another good part on this video on...Chinese Way maybe? I really don't remember, but the part is Mike Lindup is away from his keyboard rig clapping his hands or something and all of a sudden realizes his part should be playing *now*. He gets back to his keybaords a couple measures too late and I think I remember Mark laughing at him. I thought it was pretty funny. I could go for a World Machine meets Pursuit of Accidents. I think the songs on World Machine were engineered and produced really well. Same with Running in the family. To all you British and European subsribers: Do Level 42 songbooks exist? I'm looking for a book or books with L42 songs (either by album or a compilation of various tunes) with the lyrics, chords and notes, and perhaps including notated keyboard arrangements and guitar and bass tablature. If any such thing exists in your neck of the woods, please let me know! Elson etrinida @ scf.usc.edu
