Where is it from? It was the B-Side for "The Sun Goes Down". However, my ear is telling me that it was recorded during the Pursuit of Accidents sessions. The production style sounds way more like Pursuit than "Standing". It's also one of the tracks on our b-sides CD, As Years Go By, which you will increasingly wish you had! -Will ------------------------------ Subject: TTrudell @ aol.com Lives in a Bottle . . . Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: Various From: Andre Huijts Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 20:37:00 +-200 1) Regarding the "would be nice" covers by L42: How 'bout "A real mothe for ya" by Johny guitar Watson,(already has a nice bass groove) imagine replacing the guitar parts by some MK bass.......and a little higher tempo too. "Relight my fire" by Dan Hartman ? "Still haven't found what I'm looking for" U2 Anything by Robert Palmer ? You know I think one of the great things about L42 is that they (almost) never covered ! (And that THEY were (almost) never covered !) 2) Yes, I have to admit that I am on the side of L42 lovers that also like S.O.S......mind you I've only got two CD's of them and don't like all the tracks, but some songs just give me "let's have a party" feeling. I never heard them live. 3) Just went shopping in used record store: I saw (but did not buy): CD5 Heaven in my hands DFL 5,- RITF LP DFL 2,50 Level 42 LP DFL 5,- + some more regular CD's from DFL 15,- up to DFL 25,- All are used ! If someone is interested in anything let me know. Multiply DFL price by about 0.56 for USD price. 4) I am too confused about the CD-R project and the 'As years go by'-thing. Maybe it's because I only dropped in this digest for a few months now.... PLEASE enlighten us..... I want to know more ! Groetjes, Andre ------------------------------ Subject: Live At Wembley 1987 From: Marc.Vael @ ping.be (Marc Vael) Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 21:38:07 +0200 (MET DST) Hi again levelheadz. Some info on thisL @ W87 concert released on VHS & LD: Thanks to Maarten Gorter, I was able to complete the concert with the great live version of Micro Kid FULLY DIGITAL! I mixed it digitally with the many edit tricks available on Minidisc players ;-) Since the CD5 with micro Kid was a bit less loud than the LD in general (cf. the 'boom' at the beginning of the MK version, of at the end of the LD version), i mixed it slightly different, with MK now just after Leaving me now (before the B-side of the LD normally starts) the booom remains at the end of the concert. Total time is now: 74 minutes and 26 seconds. All digital recording done with fibre optic interfaces, of course ;-) And to counter all rumours of MD sound quality, i can say they're wrong: I've tested the sound of an MD vs CD and even vinyl on a quite expensive sound installation (4 loudspeakers, 2xB&W and 2x KEF-Q; Luxman hi-power amplifier, Luxman $3000 CD player (yuk!) and Technics SL1210MK2 turntable with brand new needle on it) Results were that only a slight difference between vinyl and CD were detectable (on vinyl, bass is a bit warmer), but NO difference whatsoever between MD and CD) Perhaps a computer can detect the diff, I as a normal human being can't! I'm really planning to put this '87 gig on CD, in the meantime, MD copies can be obtained through my address... Thanks again Maarten! so long Dirkies PS: all who wanted to buy something from me but didn't send anything yet: just send it, deals are closed! And USD is fine for me. ------------------------------ Subject: I'm Back! From: alr6370 @ email.csun.edu (angelina rogero) Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 14:12:01 -0700 Hi Kids, It's Angel here. I'm back on the Digest glad to say that my first incoming email on my new account was from the Digest server welcoming my subscription. Hey, did anyone even know/care I was gone? I still have yet to read all the digests I missed. Now I'm here at Cal State Northridge in the Mac Lab in the music dept. My poor old PC in my apartment has yet to get hooked up to the system. :-( Well, I'm off to the archives to read what's been said about our LA Levelfest not too long ago. Just wanted to reintroduce myself. Oh yeah, for new subscribers; I'm almost 21 (Sept. 28), living in SoCal, USA and I've loved Level since 86 or so. I'm Mexican-American (although I can hardly speak Spanish), 5'4", with dark hair and eyes. I'm currently a Music Industry major in my junior year. Any questions, comments, snide remarks? Level on... Angel [snide remarks? I dunno... Currently a student at Arizona State University, majoring in Speech and Hearing Science. I have been a fan of the band since I heard the song "Something About You". Was able to get all of their albums on C.D., also some import albums. Would like to know if there are any live albums out there other than "Physical Presence I and II". Look forward to hearing from any of you with any information on new album by Mark. In case my e-mail address is not on this letter it is uvular @ imap2.asu.edu. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Interesting Associations From: TwinkieU @ aol.com Date: Thu, 12 Sep 1996 22:52:34 -0400 > It's interesting that you make the association between L42 and The Dan. > My good friend and I have been making comparisons for years and arguing > over who is more talented (I love them both, but of course I'd have to > say L42 rules). I can think of some others that would be cool covers: > "The Fez", "Peg", "Green Earings"...but I'd really rather hear new stuff > from MK and the band. It seems we all do have similar tastes in other > bands though. Steely Dan and L42 happen to be my favorite bands. Although both are very different stylistically, they both bridged the gap between jazz and pop better than any other bands I've heard. Their music has the complexity of jazz, with the catchy melodies and vocals of pop. L42 is #1 in my opinion, becuase the Dan's lyrics are a little outrageous. How about a cover of Kid Charlemagne?? I have seen them in concert three times and it is a fantatic show everytime. If your not in New York I believe they are on the road in late Sept and October. It's a lot like being a fan of Level 42. I have had a lot of friends surprised at how good the music is from a group that they had not heard of before. Is it much different? Could someone send me a tape? Come on, Go by the original album ! Give the guys credit ! (If you REALLY have trouble getting it, drop me a line, I can buy BUCKETS of them, New,used you name it, it's here in this wonderfull small country !) (Although I must admit I like the resurgence Forever Now better than the RCA version. Billy's gone is definitly much better on Resurgence. I cannot imagine that RCA disapproved off the other tracks that are on the Resurgence version) > I'm almost done with a new .mid version of Lessons in Love. I haven't > heard the one that lives on the homepage yet (but I have heard the "Heathrow" > and it's fantastic). But, anyone who wants a copy of the .mid file to hear > my interpretation let me know. I also have some original stuff which isn't > too bad. Now that is very interesting. I downloaded RITF,Less.i.love,Forever Now,Hit Combi.,Heathrow. I think Forever Now & Heathrow & The Hit Combi are the best. The other two are allright. So I surely would like to hear a new version of L.I.L., (A few days ago I tried synchronising the Midi files with the CD tracks. Only Forever Now has exactly the same tempo, and sounds very similar to the original ! It is hard to synchronise but try it, it's fun. Groetjes, Andre huijts @ worldonline.nl
