I can't think of who else Wally Badarou has worked with off the top of my head, but I know it mentions this in the blurb about him in the Words of a Mountain liner notes. I'll check into that later. Oh, and one other extremely minor detail to mention (since I notice these things): among the session players on the new Pet Shop Boys album "Very" is John Thirkell, who also played trumpet on a few L42 albums -- at least Guaranteed. Speaking of which, I listened to my Paul Hardcastle album (CD) "No Winners" the other day -- this is the one (his only?) with the song "19" on it... about the Vietnam War. The album has Gary Barnacle playing sax on a few tracks. He is actually much better on this effort than on any L42 album, IMHO. - Eric "the guy know notices the little guys!" ------------------------------ From: Lazlo Nibble Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1993 08:51:32 -0700 (MST) Subject: Re: Wally Badarou collaborations > I can't think of who else Wally Badarou has worked with off the top of > my head, but I know it mentions this in the blurb about him in the Words > of a Mountain liner notes The important one is M. Check some names pulled from the liner notes of the first two M albums: Synthesizer, Keyboards: Wally Badarou Sax: Gary Barnacle Drums: Phil Gould Drums, Guitar, Bass: Mark King... > Speaking of which, I listened to my Paul Hardcastle album (CD) "No > Winners" the other day -- this is the one (his only?) with the song "19" > on it... There are about a half-dozen Hardcastle discs including compilations, and I think "19" is on all but one of them. :-) -- Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) ------------------------------ From: peter @ kentrox.com (Peter Uchytil) Date: Wed, 10 Nov 93 08:45:12 PST Subject: Re: Wally Badarou collaborations > > I can't think of who else Wally Badarou has worked with off the top of > > my head, but I know it mentions this in the blurb about him in the Words > > of a Mountain liner notes > > The important one is M. I've never heard of M. Sorry for my ignorance, but does anyone know if there are any US releases of M's albums? Are they out of print? Sounds like a pretty cool lineup. Are there vocals? PS. I have not heard _On the Level_, but I have an ABC "Hits 2" album by the same company. The recording quality is not good on some songs. Very tinny and irritating after a while. I'd have to find OTL at a very good price before I'd buy something from this company again. I *think* all three were released in the US. None have come out on CD, though "Pop Muzik" is on a few Hits-Of-The-80s compilations and has been reissued on CD-single by ZYX Records in Germany. -- Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) ------------------------------ From: peter @ kentrox.com (Peter Uchytil) Date: Wed, 10 Nov 93 11:03:25 PST Subject: Re: Wally Badarou collaborations > > M? Don't know how I could have blanked on this one. > I *think* all three were released in the US. None have come out on CD, Hmmm, no CD release is a bad thing. Oh well. > Lazlo (lazlo @ unm.edu) Thanks for the info, Lazlo! Greetings all, Well, I've been lurking on this list since October and I've never formally said 'Hello'. So I keep it brief. I'm out here in the San Francisco Bay Area but I was born and raised in Toronto, ON. Anyway, I first heard Level 42 in 1985 when I was in Grade 11 and that was it! World Machine was the first tape I ever purchased! To me, Mark King IS Level 42 (not besmirching Mike Lindup in anyway ) since Mark's playing style is a tremendous influence and inspiration to me. In summary, I'm appealing specifically to any bass player fans out there for some help. For the longest time have been trying to figure out the 3 main notes in Hot Water. I keep thinking its F up to A# and then down to G#- repeat with vigour. Am I anywhere close??? Bassically yours, Mark B. "If we put the truth in your hands would you really like to know?"
