Oh well, while we're on the subject, let's try to name the guitarists anyway. So far, I can only come up with five: 1) Roland "Boon" Gould 2) Alan Murphy 3) Dominic Miller 4) Allan Holdsworth 5) Jakko Jaczyck 6) ? Can anyone name the 6th person? I have no idea. > There are several letters from fans around the globe. Most ask about the > activities of current and past members of the band. This information is vital! I'm sure all of us here more than appreciate it! And it's a good stimulus for discussion on the list. The Chant Has Begun, Elson ------------------------------ From: "Matthew L. MacInnis" Date: 17 Oct 93 13:19:00 EST Subject: The mystery sixth guitarist I believe I saw this sixth Level 42 guitarist playing in place of Boon during the North American leg of the Running In The Family Tour back in '87. Having checked my ticket stub for the exact date, I saw them on Saturday, September 12 1987 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The show started very late, as I remember (that's another story). When they finally got going, Mark King told the audience that Boon was ill and couldn't make the overseas trip from England. He did introduce Boon's substitute, but I can't remember his name! I do remember his face though and it was NOT Alan Murphy, Allan Holdsworth, Dominic Miller, nor Jakko. By process of elimination, this guy must be the sixth guitar player. Anyone remember who he was? Anyway, the guy played Boon's parts well. The show as a whole was great, except for the fact they didn't play "Hot Water". Maybe the sub couldn't do it justice :) The other story about the delay before the show is kind of neat. Mark King apologized for the delay, but did not elaborate or offer an explanation. A few months later I was in a downtown guitar store. I noticed a poster advertizing Trace Elliot amplifiers which had a picture of Mark standing beside a stack of his amps. I asked a salesman if they had any extras of the poster. He said they didn't, but would show me something interesting. He dug into a file and came out with a receipt for rented gear signed by Mark King on Sept. 12 1987! The salesman told me something had happened to Mark's touring gear on the day of the Toronto show and he had to rent an entire setup for the gig. Matt MacInnis
