Level 42 Cover Song! ------------------------------ From eric Fri Aug 20 12:28:48 1993 Subject: Administrivia Yet one more thing that you guyz probably could care less about... Through the miracle of technology, I'm having a friend take care of administrating the address list while I'm gone on vacation. He'll be able to add new subscription requests... the process is still the same - email to level42-request @ enterprise.bih.harvard.edu. Well, that's it! I'm off to the beaches for a week! Yippee! Oh, by the way, I heard "Fashion Fever" *blasting* from a car stereo in Boston last night... you know, earth-shaking bass, tinted windows, the works... kind of made me laugh. See ya's later! In response to Hein Goemans' message: Nice to hear from someone who *knows* L42 personally! But what's THIS? Mark King divorced Pia? When? Who has the daughter? (what is the daughter's name?) And who is "Ria?" BOON DIED?!?!?! Say it isn't so! I *hope* you're not mistaking Boon with Alan Murphy, Boon's replacement in '88, who DID die (of AIDS) in 1989, following their "Staring At The Sun" tour. I don't understand things. If Boon did die, they'd have some kind of dedication on the album...But as I understand, Boon's relationship with L42 was still a good one, as he still co-wrote songs with them in "Staring At The Sun..": but he was TOTALLY out of the picture in "Guaranteed" Now all I hear is rumors... A friend of mine said someone told him that Boonwas considering joinging again! What gives? How about Phil Gould? Why did he leave the band and what is he doing now? I was in a local CD store today that specializes in used CDs... Yes, I was looking for some Level 42 stuff (couldn't find the stuff I was looking for) but I happened to find a CD called "The World's Most Dangerous Party" by Paul Shaffer and the Party Boys of Rock & Roll (formerly Paul Shaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band). Anyways, the second song on this CD is called "Something About You" and YES, it's the Level 42 song. So I popped it in the store's CD player to take a sample listen... It's instrumental, with Shaffer's Hammond B3 organ playing Mark King's vocal parts and Sid McGinnis' guitar playing Lindup's vocal part... It's alright (of course the original is way better), It sounds sort of mellow, and if you lowered the drums it would sound sort of Muzak-ish... An insteresting arrangement: Paul Shaffer plays the vocal melody on organ and the keyboard pads on synth; McGinnis plays the Clavinet line on his guitar, as well as the other vocal line. Anton Fig plays the drums, no real difference here - and Will Lee just plays the bass line with his fingers...no slapping like Mark King did! The whole Cd is filled with cover tunes from the 60s to the 90s...It's alright, but I didn't buy it. Does anyone know of any artist that did a Level 42 cover tune? Are You Hearing What I Hear, Elson
